Keep Watching

Right now we are developing a few case studies to show how students and coaches work together in the writing/coaching process. You'll be able to read the coach's suggestions and then see which ones the student incorporated in the next revision. We will begin with the student's first take on the assignment--most likely in some nonlinear format (webbing or listing) or in free writing--and the first coach response. Then comes the initial draft with coach response and then one final draft with comments and a final edit. When it is part of the assignment, we will also ask the student to comment about what he or she learned from the process.

(Full Disclosure: You'll also get an idea of how we handle mechanics. Clue: We found out the hard way that you really don't want to wait until the final revision to pin down such things as the correct spelling of an author's name or of a book title, nor do you want to let pages and pages of long, winding ribbons of dialog unmarked by quotes numb your eyes.)
